An email found on Leslie's computer...

Dear Dr. Marenchin: I just wanted to take the time out to let you know how wonderful it is to have a teacher with your teaching style at UH. You make your class (ethics) so interesting, no wonder it's always full. I agree with all your philosophies and points of view and your laid back teaching style. We need more teachers like you at UH!

My friend actually sent this email. Funny story but he wasn't even enrolled in the course (Intro. to Ethics)! The first course I took with Dr. Marenchin was an intro to philosophy and was blown away by his teaching style. It was extremely down to earth and personable. There was never a time where I didn't want to go to class!

Later, I was required to take a free elective to complete my BS in Biology so I figured I'd take a class that I KNEW I would enjoy (in this case Intro. to Ethics). One day during a study session I told my friend, Shawn, about the class I was taking and recommended that he sit in one of them. Upon my recommendation he sat in the course and he too was amazed, so much so that he made every attempt to sit in the class.

Unfortunately for Shawn, he was working on his last semester so he was unable to actually enroll in one of Dr. Marenchin's courses. I believe this email was written after Shawn had only attended 2 classes. I feel that alone speaks volumes of Dr. Marenchin and who he was, not just as a professor but as a person.

RIP Dr. Leslie Marenchin
